One address, three attendance zones

The Schools Zoned to 2727 Kirby Drive: Three Campuses, by the Numbers

Updated September 2026

Which schools is 2727 Kirby zoned to, and who publishes the figures beside each campus?

Houston ISD's attendance-zone maps for the 2026-2027 school year, read at this building's own point on 18 September 2026, put 2727 Kirby Drive in one zone at each level, Poe Elementary, Lanier Middle School and Lamar High School, and the 2026 letters the state published beside those three names do not become final until 11 December 2026.

Which campuses is 2727 Kirby Drive zoned to?

An attendance zone is the piece of the city whose addresses one campus takes, and Houston ISD publishes its zones as maps: a layer for elementary campuses, a layer for middle and a layer for high school, all three named for the 2026-2027 school year. Read on 18 September 2026 at the point the Census Bureau's own address geocoder returns for 2727 Kirby Drive, the three layers come back with one campus each: Poe Elementary, Lanier Middle School and Lamar High School.

Each zone record carries the grades it covers and the campus's own address. The elementary zone here is Poe Elementary at 5100 Hazard Street, zoned for pre-kindergarten, kindergarten and grades one to five, with an earlier grade the layer writes as EE. The middle school zone is Lanier Middle School at 2600 Woodhead Street, for grades six to eight. The high school zone is Lamar High School at 3325 Westheimer Road, for grades nine to twelve.

A fourth layer, the district's feeder pattern, prints a chain rather than one level at a time. At this point it reads Poe ES, then Lanier MS, then Lamar HS, in the district's own shorthand, so the chain and the three zone layers agree.

One point was read here, and this building holds many homes. The point is the one the geocoder returns for the street address, it fell inside exactly one polygon at each level, and a unit number was never part of that query, because the layers do not hold one. Houston ISD settles a zone address by address.

What are the two figures beside each campus, and who publishes them?

The Texas Education Agency rates districts and campuses with one overall letter, A through F. The agency's own page on how those letters are decided, read on 18 September 2026, names what they rest on: "Accountability ratings are based on three domains: Student Achievement, School Progress, and Closing the Gaps." Of the campus letter the same page says it measures "what students are learning in each grade and whether or not they are ready for the next grade", and that it also shows how well a school prepares its students for success after high school.

The letters and the method behind them are both issued a year at a time. That same page sends a reader to the 2026 Accountability Rating System Manual for how this year's data were processed, and to the 2027 manual for the current methodology. Houston ISD's own letter for 2026 is a B, read in the agency's 2026 statewide multi-year ratings spreadsheet, and the three campus letters in the table below come out of the same file.

Beside each letter the table carries the figure GreatSchools publishes for that campus, out of 10, read on 18 September 2026 at the top of the campus's own profile: the Poe profile, the Lanier profile and the Lamar profile. The panel that explains the figure on each of the three is dated 29 May 2026, describes GreatSchools as a national nonprofit organization, and says the figure "provides a snapshot of school quality based on the following measures". Those measures, each carrying its own weight, are not printed here, and neither is anything else those profiles hold.

The rows are alphabetical by campus, which is how a reader finds one, and neither figure decides the order. The two columns are separate readings by separate publishers on separate scales, and neither one checks the other.

No National Blue Ribbon award appears beside any of the three. The U.S. Department of Education's program publishes a cumulative list of every school it recognized from 1982 through 2019, a list for each year from 2020 to 2023, and a page of 2024 awardees, which is the last cohort it has published, and none of these three campus names appears on any of them. The program's own address does not answer requests from this network, so each list was read in the Internet Archive's copy, and the links here open that copy.

The three Houston ISD campuses 2727 Kirby Drive is zoned to for the 2026-2027 school year, in alphabetical order. The letters are the state's, from the Texas Education Agency 2026 statewide multi-year ratings file read in September 2026; the figures out of 10 are the ones GreatSchools published on the campus profiles it keeps for Houston Independent School District, read on 18 September 2026.

Are the state's 2026 letters final?

Not until December. The agency's 2026 A-F Accountability Ratings Appeals Process and Timeline, read on 18 September 2026, sets the year out in rows: the preliminary release on 12 August 2026, which is the day the appeals window opened; the deadline at 5pm on 11 September 2026; and 11 December 2026 for the "2026 Final Ratings and Count of Consecutive Years of Unacceptable Performance Release", when "The outcomes of all appeals are reflected in the final ratings and year counts update."

The same timeline attaches a condition that December does not lift: ratings and year counts "are subject to change due to the results of an audit, compliance review, or investigation". A letter records what the agency published on one day.

Does a home here have to apply for anything?

An address gives a home a zoned seat, and Houston ISD runs a second route beside that one. The district calls itself an open-enrollment district of choice and says a student may apply to campuses beyond the zoned one, and to specialized programs across the district, on a single application. Its eligibility page, read in September 2026, carries the conditions on that: "Some programs require students to meet an entrance requirement", "Priority status gives eligible applications a higher ranking in the lottery process", and a sibling priority at the three entering grade levels the district names, kindergarten, sixth and ninth, where a sibling is already enrolled at the campus being applied to and is returning the next school year.

All three campuses above carry magnet programming, and the district files a magnet campus under one of three types, which decide who applies for what. Poe Elementary is listed as a School Wide Program: "All non-zoned students must apply to these schools. Zoned students do not need to apply given the full school participates in the programming." Lanier Middle School and Lamar High School are both listed as School Within a School, which the district defines this way.

The same page adds a condition worth knowing at this address: a student accepted into a magnet school may be eligible for free transportation where the student lives at least two miles from the school and inside Houston ISD's boundaries.

Zoned and non-zoned students must apply to access this specialty programming. Zoned students do not need to apply to their zoned school to access the general education program.

What should you put to Houston ISD in writing before an offer?

Write to the district with the whole address, unit number included, and say which school year you mean. Ask for all three levels in one reply rather than the level you need first, ask the date that answer was last reviewed, and ask whether any boundary change is under consideration for the year you named.

The district's own answer for one address comes from School Navigator. The address at houstonisd.org/schoolfinder redirects to it, and on 18 September 2026 what it served was a loading screen waiting for a browser to run the application, which is why this page reads the published maps and looks nothing up. Run your own unit through it, keep the answer it gives you, and ask the district for the same answer in writing.

A seller has the same reason to ask early. The question arrives with the first buyer either way, and a written answer from the district settles it faster than a recollection or an old listing page does. It belongs in the file beside the resale certificate and the association's documents.

What can this page not tell you?

The zone for one home in this building. Houston ISD settles that address by address, and no address was put through its lookup for this page.

How the figure out of 10 is worked out. This page prints the number, the publisher and the date it was read, and leaves the weighted parts behind it alone.

Whether the 2026 letters survive December. The final set arrives on 11 December 2026, and an audit, a compliance review or an investigation can move one afterwards.

What the district will vouch for in its own maps. It says nothing at all: the four layers were checked at the layer, the service and the item level, and every one of them carries an empty licence field and no accuracy wording of any kind, so no warning and no assurance is written here on the district's behalf.

Whether an application would succeed. The district's lottery settles that, on its own priorities and its own dates, and none of that is predictable from here.

What either figure is worth to a home in this building. Both publishers print student and enrollment figures beside the ones above and none of those was taken, and no campus on this page is described, ranked or set against another.

Questions & answers

2727 Kirby questions, answered

Which schools is 2727 Kirby zoned to?

Houston ISD's attendance-zone maps for the 2026-2027 school year put 2727 Kirby Drive in three zones: Poe Elementary at the elementary level, Lanier Middle School at the middle level and Lamar High School at the high school level. The zones were read on 18 September 2026 at the point the federal address geocoder returns for the street address, and each of the three layers returned exactly one campus.

An attendance zone is the area whose addresses a campus serves, and the district publishes one map layer per level. Poe Elementary's zone is zoned for pre-kindergarten, kindergarten and grades one to five, with an earlier grade the layer writes as EE, Lanier Middle School's for grades six to eight and Lamar High School's for grades nine to twelve. A zone belongs to an address rather than to a building, and this tower carries one street address over many homes, so the district's own answer for a particular home is the one worth having. Its School Navigator lookup answers for a single address on screen, and a written reply from the district is what belongs in a purchase file.

What does Houston ISD's feeder pattern show for 2727 Kirby?

One chain: Poe ES, then Lanier MS, then Lamar HS, in the district's own shorthand. The feeder pattern is a fourth map layer, published beside the three attendance-zone layers for the 2026-2027 school year, and it prints the elementary, middle and high school campuses for an area as a single string. Read at this building's point on 18 September 2026, it names the same three campuses the zone layers return.

The chain is worth checking because the three levels are drawn as three separate maps, and an elementary zone in Houston can fall across two middle school zones, which is how two homes on one elementary zone end up at different middle schools. Nothing like that happens at this point: the four layers agree, and they agree on the same three campus codes, 221, 57 and 8. The layers are redrawn for a school year rather than for a sale, so read the chain as the answer for 2026-2027, and ask the district whether a boundary change is under consideration for the year you care about.

What did the state publish for the campuses zoned to 2727 Kirby in 2026?

The Texas Education Agency published a C for Poe Elementary, an A for Lanier Middle School and a B for Lamar High School in 2026, with a B for Houston ISD itself. The letters went to districts on 12 August 2026 and stay preliminary until the agency's final release on 11 December 2026. The agency publishes one overall letter for each campus it rates, a year at a time.

Beside each letter this site prints the figure out of 10 the same campus carries at the top of its own profile, read on 18 September 2026, and the two are separate readings by separate publishers on separate scales. The schools page carries both in one table, in alphabetical order by campus, with a link to each body and the year each figure belongs to. Nothing on this site ranks a campus, sets one against another or reads a trend into either number, and no enrollment or student-group figure is printed anywhere.

Are the 2026 letters from the state final?

Not yet. The agency released the 2026 letters to districts on 12 August 2026 and opened its appeals window the same day, the deadline fell at 5pm on 11 September 2026, and the final set arrives on 11 December 2026, when the outcomes of all appeals are reflected in the figures. Until that date every 2026 letter is preliminary, whatever campus it is attached to.

December does not close the question either. The same timeline says ratings and year counts are subject to change after an audit, a compliance review or an investigation, so a letter records what the agency published on one day rather than a fixed property of a campus. Two things follow. Date any letter you quote. And read it again against the agency's own current figures before you rely on it in a negotiation.

Do I have to apply to the magnet program at a zoned campus?

It depends on the type the district files the campus under, and all three campuses zoned to 2727 Kirby carry magnet programming. Poe Elementary is listed as a School Wide Program, where the whole campus runs the programming and a zoned student does not apply. Lanier Middle School and Lamar High School are each a School Within a School, where a zoned student applies for the specialty part and for nothing else.

A zoned seat in the general education program is what an address gives you, at all three campuses. Anything past it is an application, and the district runs one form for the lot: it calls itself an open-enrollment district of choice and lets a student apply to campuses beyond the zoned one. The conditions are the district's own. Some programs carry an entrance requirement, priority status gives an eligible application a higher ranking in the lottery, and sibling priority runs at kindergarten, sixth and ninth grade where a sibling is already enrolled at the requested campus and is returning the next year. A student accepted into a magnet school may also be eligible for free transportation, where the student lives at least two miles from the campus and inside district boundaries.

How do I confirm the zoned schools for a specific unit at 2727 Kirby?

Put the full address, unit number included, into Houston ISD's own School Navigator lookup, then ask the district for the same answer in writing. The maps this site reads are the district's published boundaries for the 2026-2027 school year rather than its answer for one home, and they were last changed in July 2026. Ask for all three levels at once, not only the one you need first.

School Navigator runs as an application in the browser, so it answers on screen and leaves nothing to file, which is why the written reply is the part worth keeping. Ask when the district last reviewed that answer, and whether a boundary change is under consideration for the school year you are asking about. A seller is better off asking before listing, because the question arrives with the first buyer either way. The reply belongs with the resale certificate and the association's documents, in the same file as the rest of the address-level paperwork on this building.
